Editor’s Note: Tonight’s blog was written by 7Weather intern Tyler Hughes. After a refreshing weekend with temperatures around average for most of us, Mother Nature will turn up the thermostat big-time later this week. The story of this workweek is hot, humid, and with scattered chances of storms here and there. Tomorrow will likely be the coolest day we have until the weekend – with temperatures climbing into the middle and upper 80s. A light breeze will keep things cooler along the Cape and Islands.Tomorrow starts off dry in the morning, with a chance for scattered thunderstorms throughout the afternoon. I think storms will be most likely in and around Metro Boston and down the 495 corridor through Worcester County. Shower/storm activity in Western NH, the Berkshires, Cape and Islands will be more isolated, but nonetheless still possible. Keep in mind that strong winds, isolated downpours and small hail are possible here. By bedtime, the majority of these storms w...Knicks signing former Cavs guard Dylan Windler: source

The Knicks are still tinkering with the end of the roster.Dylan Windler, a 6-6 guard and former first-round pick, is signing with New York after four years with the Cavaliers, a source confirmed. The 26-year-old, who spent time in the G-League the last two seasons, is a spot-up 3-point shooter with disrupting size on defense. He averaged 3.3 points in 11.4 minutes over 84 career games with the Cavs, who drafted Windler at No. 26 in 2019.Brock Aller, a current Knicks executive, was in Cleveland’s front office when it picked Windler. His entire rookie season was sabotaged by a leg injury.Windler will ink a two-way contract, according to ESPN, which would require some maneuvering of the Knicks roster. They already have the maximum three players on two-way contracts — Nathan Knight, Trevor Keels and Jaylen Martin — meaning one (including Windler) will have to be cut or transferred to a regular contract. Not counting the two-way deals, the Knicks currently have 12 pl...FedEx pilots reject labor deal, sending both sides back to talks

FedEx Corp.’s unionized pilots rejected a tentative agreement to renew a labor contract on which talks have dragged on for more than two years. The courier’s pilots voted 57% against the deal while 43% were in favor, the Air Line Pilots Association, or ALPA, said in a statement. There are about 5,000 FedEx pilots, according to the company, and 98% participated in the vote, an ALPA representative said.“Our members have spoken and we will now regroup and prepare for the next steps,” Capt. Chris Norman, the FedEx chair for ALPA in the statement. “FedEx pilots remain unified, and that will drive a new path that will help produce an agreement that all FedEx pilots will be proud to support.”The rejection adds to a labor conflagration this summer in which Hollywood screenwriters, United Parcel Service Inc. delivery drivers and auto workers are all on strike or threatening to do so. The pandemic unleashed a worker movement fueled by anger at inflation undercutting their wages and the realiza...IRS is ending unannounced visits to taxpayers

WASHINGTON — The Internal Revenue Service said Monday it is ending its decades-old policy of making unannounced home and business visits, in an effort to help keep its workers safe and to combat scammers who pose as IRS agents.Effective immediately, revenue agents will no longer make unplanned visits to taxpayers’ homes and businesses “except in a few unique circumstances,” the Treasury Department said in a statement. The agency will instead mail letters to people to schedule meetings.“Today’s announcement is the right thing to do, at the right time,” new IRS Commissioner Daniel Werfel told reporters on a call Monday. The change ends “an era at the IRS,” he said, reversing a practice by revenue officers whose duties include visiting homes and firms to resolve taxpayers’ liabilities by collecting unpaid taxes and unfiled tax returns. The agency in recent years has experienced more threats, in part tied to conspiracy theories that ag...Dolphin moms use baby talk to call to their young

WASHINGTON — You know instantly when someone is speaking to an infant or small child. It turns out that dolphin mothers also use a kind of high-pitched baby talk.A recent study found that female bottlenose dolphins change their tone when addressing their calves. Researchers recorded the signature whistles of 19 mother dolphins in Florida, when accompanied by their young offspring and when swimming alone or with other adults. The dolphin signature whistle is a unique and important signal — akin to calling out their own name.“They use these whistles to keep track of each other. They’re periodically saying, ‘I’m here, I’m here’,” said study co-author Laela Sayigh, a Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution marine biologist. When directing the signal to their calves, the mother’s whistle pitch is higher and her pitch range is greater than usual, according to the study published in the journal, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.R...Cape Cod shark sightings light up Sharktivity app, ocean sunfish confused for great whites

BALDOR and MATTHEW LEE (Associated Press)WASHINGTON (AP) — The Biden administration is sending up to $400 million in additional military aid to Ukraine, including a variety of munitions for advanced air defense systems and a number of small, surveillance Hornet drones, U.S. officials said Monday, as attacks in the war escalated to include strikes in Moscow and Crimea. The package includes an array of ammunition — ranging from missiles for the High-Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) and the National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System (NASAMS) to Stingers and Javelins. The weapons are being provided through presidential drawdown authority, which allows the Pentagon to quickly take items from its own stocks and deliver them to Ukraine, often within days.Officials said the U.S. is also sending howitzer artillery rounds and 32 Stryker armored vehicles, along with demolition equipment, mortars, Hydra-70 rockets and 28 million rounds of small arms ammunit...Latest news
