ST. LOUIS - One St. Louis County councilwoman is considering legislation to combat concerns of gun violence. County chairwoman Shalonda Webb announced Tuesday she is considering legislation. Stanford opens training camp: Five questions to answer before opener at Hawaii

Published Thu, 06 Mar 2025 05:52:53 GMT

STANFORD – Stanford coach Troy Taylor won’t have to deal with high expectations in his first season on The Farm. The Cardinal was picked to finish last in the Pac-12 in the preseason media poll, and oddsmakers have set its expected record at a conference-worst 3-9 – matching its record in 2021 and 2022.It’s a far cry from when former coach David Shaw took over a 12-1 team in 2011. Shaw led Stanford to three Rose Bowl appearances in his first five years, but the team eventually struggled, and he resigned in November after going 10-26 in his last three full seasons. Most of last year’s starters also left Stanford – 12 transferred to other schools, while seven were drafted into the NFL or signed as undrafted free agents. As a result, Stanford featured a young and inexperienced group learning an entirely new system when fall camp started on Tuesday.“It’s a new era of Stanford football,” senior wide receiver John Humphreys said. “You’re going to see new styles of play. Gluten-free Bakery, opened by Yvonne Khananis (Grocer + Goddess, Polentaria), has moved in. Among the items on offer were gluten-free sausage pizza ($40 for a sizable square pie), Italian dinner rolls ($4) and both rustic Italian bread and rosemary focaccia for $1...

Four elected prosecutors filed suit against the state of Georgia on Wednesday to stop a new law that gives appointees of the state’s Republican governor the power to remove elected district attorneys from office. Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp signed the bill into law in May.“This is a trend that we’re seeing across the country of state governments that don’t like how local communities want to address concerns about public safety,” said Josh Rosenthal, legal director at Public Rights Project, which is working on the suit. “When local communities are making choices that these conservative state governments don’t like, state governments aren’t respecting the will of the voters. They’re taking that power away from local communities.”“When local communities are making choices that these conservative state governments don’t like, state governments aren’t respecting the will of the voters.”The Georgia bill is one of at least 37 preemption measures — proposals that seek to limit the power of elec...
