NEW YORK (AP) — If people really looked for history at the New York City building where the Triangle Shirtwaist factory once existed, they could find it. There are plaques pointing out that it was the site of a horrific fire in 1911 that became a catalyst in the American labor movement’s fight for workplace safety protections. But for some, a few words on a wall aren’t nearly enough to honor the fire’s 146 victims. So after years of effort, the Remember the Triangle Fire Coalition on Wednesday is dedicating a new memorial that has no chance of being overlooked.A giant steel ribbon with the names of those who died in the disaster, predominantly women and girls, has been installed running horizontally from one corner of the building. Underneath it, a reflective panel shows the stenciled names as well as quotes from people who were there, describing the mayhem. In the coming weeks, a vertical steel column will be added to the corner to span almost the entire height of t...Tuberville reports former CIA director Hayden to Capitol Police over tweet

JERUSALEM (AP) — Palestinians in the sealed-off Gaza Strip scrambled to find safety Wednesday, as Israeli strikes demolished entire neighborhoods, hospitals ran low on supplies and a power blackout was expected within hours, further deepening the misery of a war sparked by a deadly mass incursion of Hamas militants.Airstrikes smashed entire city blocks to rubble in the tiny coastal enclave and left unknown numbers of bodies beneath mounds of debris. The bombardment raged on even though militants are holding an estimated 150 people — soldiers, men, women, children and older adults — who were dragged into Gaza during the weekend attack.Israel has vowed unprecedented retaliation against the Hamas militant group ruling the Palestinian territory after its fighters stormed through the border fence Saturday and gunned down hundreds of Israelis in their homes, on the streets and at an outdoor music festival. An Israeli firefighter kneels to compose himself after he and his colleagu...98.3 TRY Social Dilemma: Can Your Boss Control Your Private Social Media?

How much say can an employer really have over my social media? It’s not like I’m posting porn or controversial content. I work for a nice restaurant that’ll go nameless. I guess I didn’t help myself when I suggested that, rather than criticize me for my tweet, maybe he should “work on making better food.” Of course, I could just quit and try to go work at the other place…but, still, how much say does an employer really have over a worker’s s...5 things to know this Wednesday, October 11

Old buildings, some with warning signs that in the case of earthquake they will crumble, halls with dozens of beds, operating blocks piled up and unsuitable for the medical act or walls that hide hard-to-kill infections are some of the problems of the Romanian medical system. With Romanian healthcare system, the local, county or central authorities play ping-pong every time the question of building a new hospital arises.
