Broncos kicker Wil Lutz faced the music after tough Denver debut. But it was ex-Broncos special-teamers in Raiders locker room who got last laugh in Week 1

Jacob Bobenmoyer felt for Wil Lutz. A little. Then in the joyous Raiders locker room, Bobenmoyer and special teams coach Tom McMahon, both Broncos employees at this time two years earlier, shared a smile of satisfied glee.“I mean, the grin’s a little bit bigger at the end of the day, for sure,” said Bobenmoyer, the Broncos’ long snapper from 2019 to ’22, of the celebration he shared with McMahon, the Broncos’ special teams coach from ’18 to ’21, following the Raiders’ shocking 17-16 win in coach Sean Payton’s regular-season debut.“Yeah, it’s definitely bigger at the end of the game just because … it is what it is on the business side of things.”Even the business side of the NFL has a flair for irony every now and again. McMahon, now the Raiders’ special teams coach, was a frequent target of criticism during his Dove Valley days.Yet with McMahon and Bobenmoyer, a former UNC linebacker, wearing si...Kiszla: Blame Broncos’ embarrassing loss to Raiders on hare-brained onside kick of coach Sean Payton

Well, ain’t that a kick in the head?Fresh out of new ideas, Sean Payton lost his coaching debut with the Broncos to the hated Raiders with such a tired strategy that even a knucklehead like Nathaniel Hackett wouldn’t have thought of it.With an onside kick to begin an eventual 17-16 loss to Las Vegas, Payton plagiarized himself, stealing a page from the brightest chapter of his NFL career, when New Orleans beat Peyton Manning and Indianapolis 13 years ago in the Super Bowl with bold trickeration. This time, it didn’t work.“We came to win a game,” Payton said. And you lost it, coach. This “L” is squarely on you, Mr. Payton.Champions find a way to win. Chumps invent ways to lose. One game into the Payton regime, the Broncos look like the same sorry, boring losers that have missed the playoffs seven years in a row.“We’ve got to break this cycle,” Denver outside linebacker Jonathan Cooper said. “When it comes down to the nitty gritty, somehow we don’t finish.”While others will unders...Man arrested in Boulder, accused of burglary spree amid game day celebrations

SAN FRANCISCO — Gabe Kapler said he began to see signs of life from the Giants’ comatose offense even before their get-right weekend set against the Rockies.Sure, Colorado, with the worst pitching staff in the majors by ERA and the third-worst record, presented a golden opportunity to score some runs and bank some wins. But the biggest reason for optimism, Kapler said, was that his lineup was nearly back to full strength.Back from a two-and-a-half-month stint on the injured list, Mitch Haniger provided some solid evidence over the weekend.Haniger launched his second homer of the series, one of three the Giants got as their sudden power surge continued Sunday in a 6-3 win to complete a sweep of the National League West’s last-place team. Beating up on the Rockies at this point is routine, their 16th win in their past 17 tries, but a sweep? It was the Giants’ first in a series of at least three games since their first one out of the All-Star break, July 14-17 at Pitt...Outplayed and undisciplined Seahawks seek quick answers after their 30-13 opening loss to Rams

SEATTLE (AP) — Geno Smith saw no reason to try to downplay the performance the Seattle Seahawks had just put forth.Seattle’s season began with an unexpected flop that left fans booing, players losing control of their emotions and the Seahawks feeling flat outplayed by their division foe.“I didn’t expect to come out and lose at all, let alone in this fashion,” Smith said. “But hats off to the Rams. They wanted it more. They played harder.”Seattle’s 30-13 loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday was an immediate wake-up call that last year’s unexpected success and the feel-good story surrounding that team is long in the past.Seattle started this season believing it had made the necessary moves to be more of a contender in the NFC West and perhaps close in on San Francisco at the top of the division.Instead, the Seahawks were thoroughly outplayed by a Rams roster that has undergone major surgery that gutted most of the core from the team that two seasons ago won the Super Bowl, leaving o...Jenni Hermoso recibe homenaje en México horas después de que Rubiales renunciara a su cargo
